@retailwithreece: Replying to @Audrey does everyone else think I hate on technicians? I’m going to be hard on anyone that tries to override a pharmacists clinical judgement and run to corporate #pharmacist #pharmacytiktok #pharmacy #pharmacytechnician #healthcareworker

Schedule an appointment. It's not a life or death situation. I think people should have to make an appointment anyway.

It’s not the end of the world- you are correct but at the end of the day we are in healthcare and we shouldn’t turn away a patient that took the time out of their day to come down and get their flu shot. At the end of the day it is JUST A FLU SHOT.

100% agree.. I switched stores last week because we have been ~150 hours under schedule for the week every week and i was the only pharmacist and I told the technicians that if anyone asked for a walk-in to say, sorry we are completely booked and asked to schedule an appointment because we are completely booked and I am doing a vaccine literally every 7 minutes and they still took walk-ins and I was doing 60+ flu shots a day because I am the only immunizer and that is in addition to all the pharmacist things too and trying to stay on top of everything else since we don’t have enough techs and I told higher ups that this is way too much work for one pharmacist and that we need more help and we still haven’t gotten more help and all they say is that you’re doing fine 😑 and that we have the best metrics in the region but none of that matters

Tbh the company is most at fault for creating this environment. But I’m with you at the end of the day it’s up to the RPh.

I don't feel like this is a clinical judgment situation. This is a I didn't want to give that vaccine. I am not trying to minimize anyone's experience but i've given around 200 vaccines one day during a covid drive. I also have peripheral spondyloarthritis and fibromyalgia. not giving someone a Vaccine because they believed it was contraindicated is clinical judgement. my hand cramping is not.

it depends where u work too. CVS n target where I work as pharmacist, walk-in's r always available. We do have immunizing techs as well which does help out the pharmacist, but I believe all techs should get their immunizing certificate.

“When is it less busy?” “Uh, never! Come in when YOU have time to spare. Expect to be here 15 minutes. Maybe more if things come up.” 🤷‍♀️

It would take something bat shit crazy for me to report an RPh for something. Also, I don’t want to do the flu shot either lol so if they say no for whatever reason, then it’s no 🤷🏻‍♀️

My opinion as a 27 year technician. We work under the pharmacist license and they make the final decision. I don't question them on duty. I will speak to you at a later time if I felt something wasn't right. I am straight up, so if confronted in front of others, I will speak up in frontof others. I'm not going to corporate. They don't help anything anyway. That tech pretty much just ruined their relationship with pharmacists/techs in general because pharmacy is a small world and now you're a tattle tale and no one will trust you.

And this is coming from a pharmacy technician per perspective- most Pharmacist are hiding in the back while us technicians are at the front dealing with the angry customers or delivering the news that we can’t give them a flu shot because their Pharmacist hand was cramping. As technicians in the retail settings are at the front lines. And also you need to realize not every Pharmacist is like you I’ve had so many Pharmacist throw me under the bus more times than I can count.

I don’t know about overwriting my pharmacist clinical judgment, but sometimes tech Do know a little bit more than our pharmacist. But I’m gonna have my pharmacist back. Because they have our backs when patients be cussing us out for no reason.

I’m sorry, but why are we acting like there’s not a Walgreens, CVS, etc. on every corner. If one pharmacist can’t do it because their hand is cramping go down the street and another pharmacist can give them the vaccine. It’s not the end of the world. It’s just a flu shot why are we going back-and-forth about this? If that pharmacist did not feel comfortable doing it then it shouldn’t be a discussion anymore.

You live or die by the techs, but final decision always lies with the pharmacist

As a technician, if I was working alongside that other technician, they reported I would not trust that person at all. I would request not to work with that person.

Unless the pharmacist is like "after 19 shots, my hand cramps like a mutha," no one can determine what can happen to their body during the day. I bet they would complain if the pharmacist passed out and needed medical attention because they drove 20 miles and didnt get a call about it. 🙄

The tech went to corporate to tell on the pharmacist? Wow that’s pretty traitorous considering it is usually the store team v. corporate. I wonder what the circumstances were though - maybe the tech was forced to confront the patient about it. Also, hand cramping? Unless the pharmacist is also filling out all the paperwork involved, I find that hard to believe - to be clear, the paperwork and billing is the more labor intensive part, IMO.
