@vivecachow: The Day of the Dead for pets is October 27th 🪽 I remember the first time I learned about Día de los Muertos, and thought to myself “all of a sudden, death didn’t seem scary but instead so beautiful, intentional and colourful.” Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday to welcome the spirits of loved ones who have passed. But it is believed pets visit on October 27th, which marks exactly 3 months since Mochi passed. I did a lot of research to make sure I set up his ofrenda respectfully. I included his favourite treats, a handsome photo (of course), a bowl of water, a pinch of salt, marigolds, papel picado and candles. I miss him everyday and I hope he will find his way home. I don’t want to break or disrespect your mourning. But from my beliefs, their souls do not return on the first year, as the souls themselves retract their steps and process their death. In fact it is believed that displaying their photo like this doesn’t let their soul rest. (However of course there are many different beliefs, and the celebration has developed over years)
