@houstonchronicle: Gov. Greg Abbott arrived at a Cypress barbecue joint last year and promised hundreds of cheering Republicans he would spend big to turn Harris County “dark red” this fall. It was an aggressive stance, considering Harris County hasn’t voted for a Republican for statewide office since Abbott’s first gubernatorial run in 2014. But the three-term incumbent has invested more than $25 million into the county, according to his campaign, to boost his own reelection bid and the campaigns of Republicans up and down the ticket. 📝: Sam González Kelly / local politics reporter 📸: @bcoomer713, @raquelnatalicchio / photographers
