it’s why people believe in religion. they think god forgives them so they can forgive themselves without the guilt. honestly great coping mechanism when you’ve done something awful

I did that, I didn't really have the choice, it was that or suicide. And it made me really capable of apologizing and changing, I'm not perfect, I'm still human, but life is so much easier when you know who you are without shame, even about the bad stuff.

Never feel shame and regret for the decisions you made, but this does not mean you cannot learn from the mistakes some of those decisions lead to.

Sometimes I can almost feel like my soul is still gripping onto things years later that I am ashamed of. Maybe from childhood, most of the time I ignore it like ugh that was a cringe memory that doesn’t feel good, but then sometimes i genuinely look at it and just, forgive myself and tell myself everything I did was okay and nothing matters anymore. And I feel like a part of me genuinely leaves and like i genuinely physically just let go of something subconsciously that I didn’t even know I was gripping tightly onto still. It’s so weird but yeah this works <3

you need to hold yourself accountable for your actions tho, you can’t do something bad and forgive without reflection

But at what point do you stop? If I become so delusionally self-forgiving, doesn't that also mean I deflect accountability for my mistakes and become a bad person?
