I'm in a relationship that I've been in for 7yrs but the first 5 yrs of it I dealt with emotional and verbal abuse, constant down talking to me etc. The abuse was always when they got drunk and I kept making excuses saying "They're just drunk, they don't mean it" but that stopped working. For the past 2yrs I've been completely unhappy and I've check out of the relationship emotionally, physically and mentally. I want to break it off but I don't know how to because I don't want to be the bad guy and hurt anyone's feelings because the drinking has slowed down and the crazy talk is minimal, so I can see the change but I fear it's too late. What should I do?
