also how many dogs start out in training and then get rejected halfway through ? what do we do with the golden retriever that was rejected from service dog school for being too friendly ..??

There’s a huge difference between breeding for something needed (service) versus just breeding for pets that nobody asked for when we’re already overpopulated.

I feel like there is a grey area in this. (And that’s very rare as I’m autistic so most things are “black and white”) All of my pets have be rescues (including my assistance dog — a service dog in the states) but I do think there is a difference between breeding dogs for pets and breeding dogs for assistance/service dogs.

Gracie (Rick Riordans Version) :
while I agree there are ethical breeders, I think theres a gray area in this one. K-9s and service dogs NEED to be able to have certain abilities, and most often bred dogs are able to do those abilties. many times, service dogs can save people's life, so yes, there is gray area on this one.
(even tho I agree with the fact that there are ethical breeders)

I just think breeders need to breed for traits like health/temperment/size/ability, NOT coloring, body shape, etc. Example: you go to a breeder known for producing medium-size lap dogs, not a cavalier breeder.

im a big defender of adopt or shop responsibly , my hubby and I chose to adopt, we had many reasons and we are both experienced dog owners also we didnt need a puppy , but I know a lot of people who shop responsibly and that's totally valid , I'm just glad that for us , for context I live in Germany, it's so easy to get a dog from a breeder or a shelter and the dogs in the shelter don't get put down because of space so no 'breeder' or 'rescue' can use the excuse of oh I saved there life so be grateful move anyways that where my two cents to this topic

Adopt or shop but either one you pick do it responsibly. No shame in going to an ethical breeder for a pet if that's what you want. No shame in adopting if that's what you want. JUST BE RESPONSIBLE ABOUT BOTH OPTIONS

I’m getting an ethical bred BMD in February!! I’m so excited!! And she’s close to my home too so I got very lucky. Before I put my deposit down I got to see her records, meet both parents, and see the property

The people who pull the "forcing dogs to reproduce" line confuse me. Breeding is instinctual for animals it's not an emotional thing and an ethical breeder is going to ensure the female gets an appropriate recovery, which doesn't typically happen in nature. I'll do a massive happy dance when people stop trying to apply human emotion and experiences to dogs.

No ethical breeding….rightttttt. Crazy that they group people who breed their dogs in their kitchen with the same people who train their dogs show their dogs have perfect backgrounds in long lines of working or pet dogs. Sorry I forgot the word and then they want to be like oh but it’s all bad. Literally no sense has been made from any of their mouths.

to me, if you get an ethically bred dog for being a pet or working that is okay! you've clearly put in the time and effort into researching the breed(s) and found an ethical breeder that you like. the dog is ethical even if it won't be working, many people want a stable dog if they have kids, or many other reasons. you shouldn't have to explain why you want an ethically bred dog for it to be 'good' or 'bad' of you to get it. maybe someone wants a dog that is an all around well behaved dog.

So it’s ethical to breed a puppy to become a service/police dog but if that dog washes and ends up going to a pet home is it now an unethically bred puppy? Because only 30-70% of SD prospects and 20-50% of K9 prospects graduate

So many people forget that shelters and rescues can be unethical and sketchy

I hate this extreme people who are just for adopt don't shop..Because they support backyard breeders..If there aren't any beckyard breeders,or puppy mills..There wouldn't be no dogs.I am for adoption, but i support ethical breeders.🥰😍❤️
