@stevencyrmd: A surgeon in Florida just performed the first hospital-to-hospital robotic telesurgery in the U.S. On Sunday, Dr. Vipul Patel sat at a console in AdventHealth Celebration and performed a full robotic prostatectomy on a 66-year-old man at AdventHealth Minneola, 35 miles away. The instruments were in one hospital. The surgeon controlling them was in another. A qualified surgeon stayed in the operating room with the patient the entire time to ensure safety. The patient is doing well. This is the first time a robotic telesurgery has been documented between two hospital locations inside the United States. “This is the kind of progress that can change who gets access to specialized surgical care,” said Dr. Steven Cyr, a dual-trained spine surgeon. “The technology is moving fast. The standards for when and how we use it still have to catch up.” Would you trust a specialist to operate on you from another hospital if the right surgeon wasn’t available locally? This was the first between two U.S. facilities. #RoboticSurgery #MedicalInnovation #SurgicalTechnology #PatientEducation #FutureOfMedicine
