I’ve been server 25 years and recently quit because the owner started taking 40% of our tips. I was the opener but I had most of the regulars; I averaged about $600 per shift in my take home. She took 40% to pay the kitchen a livable wage so that dropped my take home to $360. I went from 3k a week ( I worked 5 days a week) in tips to $1800, now I’m trying to find a regular job because it’s not worth it anymore.

Meanwhile the entire democratically ran west coast of Oregon and Washington and California all pay state minimum wage regardless of tips or not…and that’s like a $16/hr minimum….so yeah know…these red states can deal with the consequences of their ignorance 😅

I’m in Texas… I was in the service industry for 20 years… never have I been paid “for the work I did before or after opening” it factors into the total hours. Always made more than minimum wage after tips… What the hell are you talking about
