There’s something so magical about seeing traditional Japanese scenery surrounded by the beauty of winter. ❄️🏔️ ⛩️ A Little History Located about 1,269 meters above sea level, Lake Chuzenji (中禅寺湖) was formed thousands of years ago by volcanic activity from nearby Mount Nantai. The beautiful red torii gate belongs to Futarasan Shrine’s Chugushi (中宮祠), part of a sacred tradition associated with Mount Nantai. The mountain has been worshipped for centuries, and the shrine’s history dates back to the 8th century. What makes this place special isn’t just the scenery. It’s the beautiful combination of nature, spirituality, and Japanese history.
