being an american is so weird. because i only love being american when i get to see the melting pot first hand. i love being american when i say good morning to a stranger and they smile and say it back. i love being american when i hear someone's accent. i love being american when i hear someone's backstory. what got you here? america, in my ideal vision, is meant to be this beautiful meeting point for the whole world. we join together and decide we want better, THAT is being american. that's the dream. to liberate yourself with a land full of strangers and make something out of nothing. but instead, there are people who genuinely feel so entitled, are so RACIST that they think this is like european supremacy land where everyone should suffer and look the same. NO! my country has people in all shades, who speak all languages, who look all kinds of different and it makes us strong. need something done? ask an american. that should be our legacy. the country with all kinds of hands joined together, strength and dignity. maybe its just because i was growing up under obama and the whole "world peace" era... but i really do think that this should be our legacy. im proud of be an american in that way, and i love THAT country. but this version? this america? i am so ashamed.
