Have you tried noise cancelling headphones? They won’t cancel all of the movie because it’s the movies but you can leave them with the center and if he wants to go he has them. I used them with my kids in the school sometimes, as an OT

this is important for him, he has to do hard things at least try giving up at the thought of it being hard is not realistic. I think the fact that he still got dressed and went is a great start
