The "De+ Name" is very common in France and other european countries that had something to do with France at some point because it's inherited from monarchy and/or people adding "De" to their last name to make it sound fancy... It literally means "of". For example before the revolution, every noble man was called [First Name] De [Name of their land]. And you still find it in contemporary names, like "Charles de Gaulle". So it's not Robert D. Niro, his last name IS "De Niro" and De has nothing to do with a middle name, never has and never will 😭

The "De" in "De Niro" is like the "son of" prefix afaic. Like O' for Irish, Mc or Mac for Scottish+Irish, Bin for Arabic, etc

it's because of SAG, there can only be one Sam Jackson and the name is already taken by a credited actor, that's why they add and change their government name, for example for Emma stone, her actual name is Emily but it was taken.
