Law is not for the week, the stress attached to it is TERRIBLE and the unrealistic expectations make most want to run

Being a paralegal or judge’s associate prepares you pretty well for the real world. Simply studying and doing a few legal clerkships won’t cut it. Study + work part time - get that hands on experience!!

I took a pay cut to work in a community legal clinic and it was the best decision ever. We’re a small team but we only work with low income people in a very rural area. No billables. I finish at 5/5:30. Rarely work late or on the weekends. It’s emotionally draining because the stakes are higher; if I lose, my client becomes homeless. But when I win it feels so good. We bring money into the county. We keep people housed. We keep people on social assistance. It’s not glamorous , I don’t make a lot of money, my peers in Toronto make like 50k more than me. But I love my job

That is why I advise against law school but if you really want to go, go work for a law firm for a bit to ensure that’s what you REALLY want

Worked for the top firm before, during, & after going to the top school, & started own successful firm. Quit law & medicine to do tech & entertainment - best decision ever. Only one life, & law is too negative (& medicine requires too much focus & sacrifice). But still recommend law school (it’s a quick & easy 3 years, & there are numerous benefits to having a law degree/knowledge). ✌🏾

You either have the personality for trial work or not. It’s not something you can acquire overnight.

I firmly believe thats it’s the type of law you practice or get into. Ive had so many jobs over the years and law is by far the best one I’ve had, but I can say for certainty there is a grain of truth in what she says. When I was in school I knew that there was just certain type of law I wouldnt do because it would bleed me dry.

I’m a lawyer, I enjoyed it whilst a single woman. Once I had a family I stepped away from it, it consumes too much mental load.

As a litigation paralegal, the legal field is not for the weak. I love it here, but I have had dreams about court deadlines. It’s just an unexplainable anxiety knowing how much a simple mistake can impact someone’s life. 😭

This is why you should take a few gap years & get some experience so you’re sure! You can definitely learn what it’s like before committing.
