@meetmeinthemediacenter: I’ve added on Follett Engage to my @@Follett Softwarelibrary management system to help increase my students’ motivation to read for pleasure. My students are social. What better way to harness that desire to read socially, than to utilize a system within the library app they are already familiar with to design book clubs for their friends or anyone in the school to join?! Join me on this journey! #r#readingm#motivationf#follettengageb#bookclubs#schoollibrary
Bring back the free pizzas from Pizza Hut! I’ve never read so much in middle school if I knew I’d get that pizza!

I know when I was in school, the level of homework I had took up a lot of my time. There was no time. Especially because like you said, I had books I had to read for school. How do you feel homework affects free read?

My favorite part of high school English was always the free read list. We had to read a certain amount throughout the school year, but we had a long list we could choose from. No book reports, reading logs, or specific amounts a day. We just had to let our teacher know what we picked and how we were liking it. I’m so grateful they gave us free reading as homework to make sure we had to give it some time.

I think school ruin reading for pleasure for a lot of kids and definitely for me, they make reading such a chore with analyzing every little thing in the book and all the homework alcreated from the book makes reading not fun anymore…

I HATED reading until the 8th grade. My teacher had the whole class read The Giver, it was the first time he said he saw anyone go to the library for the sequel since he'd started reading it as a class.

Does your district offer ebooks or audiobooks? I know sometimes my friends in school, and even my current partner, get discouraged from reading because they can't hear the characters voices. audio books really helped them with it. listening to one chapter and hearing their voice encouraged them to continue reading the book. I wonder if it would also help with reading on the bus since that can be a long leisure time but also reading a book can make a kid feel motion sickness

Nothing made my avid reader daughter want to stop reading more than the test/log system that dictated what she was allowed to read. This is so fun.

I hated reading till I was about 13. Reading was hard for me because I had seizures all of elementary school once those stopped I never found a book that drew my attention and then I read Twilight and I was HOOKED. I stopped reading for pleasure in my early 20s due to a DV situation and then I read A Court of Thorns and Roses and my love for reading came back!! My 8 year old son has been having a hard time finding books that interest him but he just discovered he LOVES Goosebumps!

I never liked to read. I read the Harry Potter series and that was it. I recently got back into it as an adult because of this channel and now I love it

I love this! Being forced to read books you're not interested in does not foster a continued/future reader. I know it didn't me. I didn't get really into reading until after high school.

I love reading! When I got in trouble my mom would take away my books. I got smart though because I started hiding my favorite books under my bead lol

It sounds amazing! I would love that if I would still be in school. It's a little bit like Goodreads, but already built into library system 🥹💛

So relatable! I was a big reader in elementary school and it definitely dropped in middle and high school. Partly because of required reading and partly because of a couple of really bad library experiences in both middle and high school.

I struggled reading. I went from one primary language to another in school. I learned to hate school real quick when they put me in front of the class and all the kids got to ask me anything. I walked away not knowing anything about anyone but they were able to know everything.
