Mine was so goddamn difficult to do. I couldn’t do my provisional first bc I needed some form of ID in my new name (which was literally what I was trying to get in the first place) so I had to do my passport first. To change my passport details, I needed a deed poll, bank statement in my new name, and a letter from the doctors that said my transition will be permanent. First that didn’t even work bc my bank statement didn’t include my middle name (which they never do anyway, and EVERY other document I had included my middle name). So then I had to go back to the bank to get that sorted. And then to get my provisional, I had to send off the same documents (deed poll, bank statement, letter from doctors, and also my new passport) so I could finally get my ID. What annoyed me the most was that my 18th birthday was in June so I was looking forward to having my first legal pint, but my passport didn’t arrive until August and my provisional arrived a little bit after

Can I use a bank statement with my new name on it to apply for a new passport? I asked my gp for a letter but they told me they couldn’t provide one

I’m pretty sure you need a GRC for a birth certificate and you need a birth certificate to change gender markers on passports and other legal documents, in some cases a GP letter might suffice 🤷♀️, drivers licenses don’t have gender markers on them but DVLA have a record of it and if you have a passport they can be linked etc

just a quick thing! if your in england or wales you cannot change your birth certificate so you have to go through deed poll, DONT GO THROUGH DEED POLL IN SCOTLAND, change your name/birth certificate through national records it’s so much cheaper, then change your passport, license ect

Actually no, for a passport you need a signed and dated declaration, a doctors letter confirming they know you well enough to make a diagnosis, your full name and gender, and evidence of a name change (deed poll) you also have to include medical letters or proof from the local council youre using your new name in the past 12 months. If youre under 18 you need both parents to sign a letter confirming their consent, (signed and dated)
