@shopsbh: Can you imagine a doctor promoting smoking? 🚬👨⚕️ Well, that's exactly what makes this vintage ashtray so interesting! This ashtray features the word “Doctor” along with the caduceus, a staff with two snakes wrapped around it and a pair of wings. The caduceus dates back to ancient Greek mythology and was associated with Hermes, the messenger of the gods. Although commonly used as a medical symbol in the United States, the traditional symbol of medicine is actually the Rod of Asclepius, which features just one snake and no wings. But here's what I find fascinating. There was a time when smoking was so socially accepted that ashtrays were found in doctors' offices, hospitals, and even medical waiting rooms. Cigarette advertisements once featured physicians endorsing particular brands! Today, the idea of a doctor-themed ashtray seems almost unbelievable, but it's a great reminder of how much our attitudes toward smoking have changed. We're selling this unusual vintage ashtray in our Whatnot auction Wednesday, October 28th, at 10 a.m. Eastern, with bidding starting at just $1! Would you have ever imagined seeing an ashtray in your doctor's office? #VintageAshtray #MedicalHistory #VintageCollectibles #WhatnotAuction #SalesByHelen
