This is why "loyalty is everything, stand by your people" is only half true. Loyalty is valuable when it is chosen; it is worthless when it is the only option. The man who stays because he must is not being loyal he is being trapped, and the room can tell the difference. This is also why having options is not betrayal. The options are what make the staying mean something. A man with no way out is not proving devotion he is proving there was nowhere else to go. You do not need to be disloyal. You need to be able to leave because the man who stays by choice is the man whose loyalty actually costs something.
