@bayareabobofficial: Once a thriving mercury mining town, New Idria, California, has a history far darker than its abandoned buildings suggest. From notorious outlaws to toxic contamination, illegal dumping, and a federal Superfund designation, this forgotten town has quite a story to tell. Full story drops soon. Please do not attempt to access this location. The site is isolated, guarded, fenced off, dangerous and toxic. #NewIdria #CaliforniaGhostTowns #AbandonedCalifornia #SanBenitoCounty #forgottencalifornia

Melissa :
Before the road right before New Idria got too hard for my car my friends and I would go out there and just sit for hours and enjoy the quiet. It’s a cool little place!! Sadly has deteriorated so much over time.

My parents ranch is on Panoche Rd and growing up we would ride out to Idria with friends just for something to do.

I go dirt bike riding out there and have explored the mountain all the way to Colinga. We rode around 50 miles one day. I also was given some benitoite crystals.. it’s a very beautiful place.

My dad took me out there when I was a kid in the late 70s and people still lived in town. We stopped at the local market so he could grab himself. A beer was talking with the clerk and the next thing you know the clerk has given us a tour of that processing plant. It’s something that I’ll never forget and I’m pretty sure he has pictures of that place cause he loved his camera. He loved California mining history and now I share the same passion.

Great view 🙌🔥 Been out there many times . one time in early 2000's a friend and I came coasting down the road from clear creek and just before we reached the town we had guns pulled on us ! We have never started our motorcycles so fast ! Good times .

Sucks to see that the main structure has now collapsed around the main building.

Clear creek and the new idria area is one of my favorite spots in California to ride dirtbikes. It’s too bad they can’t get it cleaned up. Orange arsenic water seeps out year round, finding its way to the San Francisco Bay. Toxic waste sucks
