@aviationdisasterx: On 21 December 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 left London Heathrow for New York, carrying 259 people just before Christmas. 38 minutes later, over the small Scottish town of Lockerbie, it vanished from radar. A bomb hidden in a baggage container in the forward hold had torn the Boeing 747 “Clipper Maid of the Seas” apart at 31,000 feet. 11 residents of Lockerbie were killed on the ground. 270 lives were lost in total.
