@ladyspinedoc: For the first time, four major medical organizations have come together with a plan that looks at women’s heart health throughout their entire lives, from their first period through menopause and beyond. Heart disease and stroke take more than 400,000 women’s lives every year, yet most women don’t even realize cardiovascular disease is their biggest health threat. A few things I want every woman to know: - Your menstrual cycle can tell us a lot about your health. - Pregnancy complications like preeclampsia and gestational diabetes can affect your heart risk decades later. - There are tools like the PREVENT score, Lp(a) testing, and coronary calcium scans that can help us better understand your risk. And as a neurosurgeon, I especially love that we’re recognizing the connection between heart health and brain health. Preventing cardiovascular disease also means preventing strokes. I broke down all the details and the science behind this in my latest Substack. #WomensHeartHealth #GoRedForWomen #StrokeAwareness

I’ve had chronic high BP since I was 17 - they’ve never found an answer why other than saying “family history 🤷🏼‍♀️” Now they might think it’s from endo 😳

I told my gastric sleeve doctor yesterday. He proceeded to say the original HRT study was correct and seemed dumbfounded about why they changed it. I won’t be seeing him again.

Preeclampsia needs to be studied more. It’s all linked. And the numbers are only growing. We need answers and prevention.

I wonder what that shared approach looks like in practice. I unfortunately see the insurance companies and the way communication happens across disciplines continue to pose as significant barriers for this to actually be implanted. It’s a great first step I think and will help to answer logistical questions. However, my biggest concern still stands with insurance companies unwilling to adjust there ways to allow for patients to be seen across disciplines affordably.

IT WASNT FIBROMYALGIA! I am thankful that this is happening right as I’m approaching perimenopause but I am so sad for every woman that has had to suffer before this especially my mother. I finally was able to Con my primary care doctor into testing my testosterone. I know it’s been low for a long time. I just KNEW it but couldn’t get anybody to test it. I believe it was low even in my teens in 20s. He had to run it as PCOS testing. My symptoms are the exact opposite. Before I was diagnosed with “fibromyalgia” my free testosterone was <1 and total was 0.0 my endocrinologist even told me that women do not need testosterone. I couldn’t even blow dry my hair six months ago and now I’m working out. My levels are still in range for a woman at around 40 all my “fibromyalgia” symptoms are GONE someone needs to research this.

I had below average bp my entire life until I reached perimenopause. Now it’s skyrocketed, and my cholesterol is increasing also. So frustrating!
