@moana.dbd: There's a side of teaching that families don't always get to see. The version of someone who walks through the front door isn't always the same person who walked out that morning. And sometimes, the people closest to us experience the effects without knowing what happened during the day. After more than 25 years in education, I've come to appreciate how important that understanding is, both for teachers and the people who share their lives. It's easy to misunderstand silence, a short response, or a need for space. But understanding goes both ways. Teachers need to communicate what they're experiencing, and partners need room to share their needs too. Sometimes a little more understanding at home can make a difficult day easier for everyone. Have you ever noticed how differently people respond to stress after work? Something worth remembering: the people waiting for us at home have had their own day, too.
Understanding works best when it goes both ways.
What helps you and your partner reconnect after a demanding day?
