Born in Harlem in 1964, SKEME began writing graffiti on New York City’s subway system at 15, quickly becoming an “All City” writer. He painted across numerous subway lines and collaborated with some of the era’s most influential graffiti artists, creating iconic pieces and mastering everything from wildstyle and whole cars to throw-ups and handstyles. In 1982, SKEME was featured alongside his mother in the groundbreaking documentary Style Wars, helping introduce New York graffiti and hip-hop culture to a worldwide audience. His legacy goes beyond the film. SKEME cemented his place as one of the true pioneers of New York graffiti and hip-hop culture. This MOG video remix was edited using Skeme’s Interview from the documentary Style Wars.
