@bikers_see_you: Gravel, sand, loose shoulders, and broken pavement can make a motorcycle feel completely different underneath you. The bike may move around a little. That does not automatically mean you’ve lost control. The real danger usually starts when the rider panics, stiffens up, or makes sudden inputs. Here are 5 loose-surface mistakes riders need to avoid: 1️⃣ Panicking when the bike starts to move Loose surfaces can make the motorcycle feel vague or unsettled. Keep a relaxed grip, loose elbows, steady throttle, and let the bike move slightly underneath you without fighting every correction. 2️⃣ Making sudden brake or throttle inputs Loose surfaces reduce available traction. Abrupt braking, aggressive throttle, or sharp steering can overwhelm that grip quickly. Smooth inputs matter. 3️⃣ Seeing the gravel too late Gravel often collects on the outside of curves, near shoulders, driveways, intersections, construction areas, and after storms. The earlier you see it, the more time you have to adjust your speed and line smoothly. 4️⃣ Crossing a pavement edge at a bad angle A shallow approach to a raised pavement edge can make the front tire track along it instead of crossing cleanly. When conditions allow, cross at a more direct angle with smooth, deliberate inputs. 5️⃣ Looking at the loose stuff instead of your exit See the hazard—but don’t stare at it. Look toward the cleanest available path you want the motorcycle to follow. LOOSE SURFACES REWARD CALM RIDERS. Relax your grip. Keep your inputs smooth. Scan farther ahead. Respect pavement edges. Look toward your exit. **THE BIKE MAY MOVE. YOUR DECISIONS SHOULDN’T PANIC WITH IT.** See it early. Stay smooth. Let the bike work. 👇 What loose surface bothers you most—gravel, sand, or pavement-edge transitions? 🏍️ Ride Smart. Ride Safe. #MotorcycleSafety #MotorcycleTips #BikersOfTikTok
