I need more of this, please. I’m a manager and the other manager in our department is ALWAYS voicing what he’s doing, small or big and often talks more even if he really isn’t saying anything of value. I feel like because he sounds busy it seems like he’s above but, my teams numbers are higher and I’m dedicated to my team. How do I voice that without over talking?

If my answers aren’t what you are looking for then maybe the questions suck. I’ve had 6 interviews this year where the hiring manager blatantly did not read anything on my resume. “Oh so this will be your first sales job” uhhh no I’ve been in sales now for 5 yrs

GREAT insight. Subscribed. That said, let me play Devil's advocate: Forgive me for being "Captain Obvious," But once they find out you have "too much" experience, (i.e, resume, aka "career log"), all the polished "value" interview stories in the world won't help. They will hire the cheap inexperienced candidate almost always - UNLESS you were referred to the hiring manager by your connections. 😶

Another thing to add is find their top 2 to 3 biggest problems that they are currently facing and then align your existing transferable skills to be the direct solution to those problems when “selling yourself”

I answered just like you did when I first tried my luck having at program management had no MBA or PMP certification. Turned out my answer, which was the evolution of my work experience and how I had to figure it out and I would in turn create the SOPs was what they needed for that job. Most of the people they had interviewed had the qualifications, but not the experience of owning a position or in my case, multiple departments. I, in turn, hired my admin based on that question alone too. She too was resourceful and explained that workflow so nicely. She became a top performer for our company and I was promoted to another line of work within the company. Actually, I personally did not know how much I really brought to the table until I sat down to really go over that question.

The interviewer already has your resume - so they don't need you to repeat what is on it. Giving context to those positions can help but the drive behind it is way more important.
