my kid was doing inpatient chemo and my output was lower than the others on my team. I was not punished at all. my boss and co workers drove 3 hours to my daughter's funeral when she passed. we all work remote and it's the first time we had met in person.

I was awarded a trip to a Caribbean island, one of several hundred out of 19,000 people, due to a stellar year and a big project I handled… and was given 3s (out of 5) because we needed to “spread it out amongst the rest of the team.” Because apparently the goals and work are individual but the raises and bonuses are collective???? 😡

Basically same thing happened to me at Walmart. I was freakishly good at cashiering & was tasked with training 3-5 newbies for days each month. Took HR to fix it.

A coworker and I (with different managers) worked together on two special projects last year and I was rated highly for spending time on them and he was penalized for spending time on them. He was so discouraged that he won’t work on anything like this again, which is such a shame because he is brilliant at this work.

I'll never forget my manager fighting my corner to get me an Exceed that I really had earned, then warned me she'd been told that that set the bar for the following year as my "Met" standard, so if I wanted Exceed again I'd have to do EVEN MORE. we laughed about together, I thanked h for for telling me upfront and took a year doing the same amount of work as everyone else and getting a Met like all of them [Tears of joy] she actively discouraged me from working harder lol
