The State of Vermont charged me, a journalist at the time, with criminal contempt of court for not revealing my source. Four months of court proceedings and LOTS of public torment. My charges were ultimately dismissed! I was willing to serve a sentence to protect my source, they were never going to get the name out of me. But I imagine MANY journalists would not be willing to do the same
