At noon the water is bright, and little fish can see trouble coming from far away, so the big fish hang back in the shade and wait. But as the sun drops, it gets dark under the water even faster than up here. Now a bass can sneak in close: from below, every minnow is a dark shape against the bright surface, but the minnow can't see the bass. Bugs come out, little fish rise to eat them, and the big fish follow. So flip your day: show up a couple of hours before sunset and stay until dark. Or go at sunrise, the same thing in reverse.
