@raisedontruecrime: 🚨 THIS ONE HITS WAY TOO CLOSE TO HOME. CHEROKEE HIGH SCHOOL CANTON, GEORGIA. I cover crime stories all the time, but I never imagined I’d be sitting here talking about an alleged school shooting plot literally in my own backyard, at the very school my child attends. Today, October 27, authorities announced that three people have been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to carry out a shooting at Cherokee High School. According to investigators, the FBI identified threatening social media posts on October 19, which led to an investigation involving Cherokee County School District Police and the Canton Police Department. A juvenile, reportedly a former Cherokee High School student, was arrested on October 20. Two additional suspects were arrested on October 23, including a 17-year-old from Georgia and a 21-year-old from California. Investigators also recovered firearms, ammunition, and electronic devices as evidence. Police say there is currently no known ongoing threat to Cherokee High School or other Cherokee County schools. But as a mother, I cannot stop thinking about what COULD have happened. We see school shootings on the news. We watch devastated parents being interviewed. We hear the names of children who never made it home. And today, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude that Cherokee High School didn’t become another one of those headlines. That my child didn’t become another statistic. That our community isn’t mourning children tonight. To the FBI, Canton Police Department, Cherokee County School District Police, and every law enforcement officer involved, THANK YOU. Your quick action may have saved countless lives.
