although another cool theory, The Sages knowing Roku is the Avatar vs Roku finding out he’s the avatar are not the same. They find out you’re the avatar way before at a younger age due to test and trials. Examples: The Monks knew Aang was the Avatar before he was 12 and was going to wait till he was 16, but chose to tell him sooner due to the rumors of war. Kyoshi and Yun were both thought to be the Avatar for they past the test prior, but thought it was Yun only because he was a better bender naturally. Yangchen was discovered before the age of 8 due to her high spirituality. if the sages thought/knew Yasu was the Avatar, they would’ve just moved on to the air nomads after his death. but like you said this could be easily retconed since they never verbatim said they were identical. although they were depicted to dress in the same style and style there hair the same. only differences they verbatim say is between them was that Yasu was more outgoing and Roku was more timid.

The whole idea of the avatar not finding out that they are the avatar until they’re 16 never made sense to me. Because there’s still times to this day where right now damn well let me staring at the pencil on my desk. Intently is not going to get it to move to my hand no matter how hard I try. You cannot tell me, but every child bender or non-bender in the avatar series does not at one point or multiple point try to bend multiple elements and discover that they can do it before they turn 16. It just seems so unlikely.

Ok so if we assume Roku’s twin was also theoretically the avatar, think about this. Roku came after an avatar that had an unnaturally long life span, and if Korra did hide out for years and there was no gap, what if ravva just like gets really confused and since the last avatar in the cycle lived the life of essentially two avatars , the rare times that happens ravva just recalibrates with replacing that long living avatar with twin avatars.

I think the only reason pavi and Nisha are twin avatars is because vaatu was destroyed and now growing inside the avatar and since the next avatar was a twin it cancelled out the 10000 regrowth cycle and was split early on

Okay to sorta disprove this theory we are shown that the avatar spirit enters at or during birth because when Roku dies the spirit immediately enters Aang being born so if they were identical twins or once the same cell in the womb they weren’t the avatar yet they become during birth when the spirit enters them

Wouldn’t the avatar state kick in to save him tho if that was the case. It’s a defense mechanism. (I haven’t gotten to the Roku books yet incase the specific circumstances of death may matter)

There's also the fact that Korra is the first known avatar to bend all elements young because she had met benders of other types due to her father being a tribe leader and having connections. Practically every avatar before her was isolated in their own nation with no real contact with other benders. They never even considered trying to bend the other elements before.

i hope Ravaa mentions it.. cause what if r*ku’s twin wouldve stopped sozin preventing the airbenders extinction? NO WAY sozin wouldve dated roku AND his twin… imagine if Ravaa mentions that she did try twins with r*ku but he died too soon

I think the Avatar Cycle always gives us exactly what the world needs at the time. And I think you need both a hot headed Avatar to take on physical threats and more relaxed Avatar to keep nations and people together

Typically the avatar temple keepers or white lotus order would locate the new avatar as soon as possible so that they can master their respective element before the age of 16 when they would have to travel to learn the other elements. The council of elder Nomads already knew Aang was the Avatar. Also, since he already had mastery of air bending, they figured they could move him along, regardless if they should.

there were twin brothers in the first season of ATLA where one was an earth bender and one wasn't. it's not quite the same as the avatar spirit, but i would imagine that means bending and spiritual alignment[?] has little to do with genetics. but also the fire sages study how certain lineages can have better chances for powerful benders so... 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

Not only did the speed up the Avatar reveal because of the threat of the fire nation but Aang was already an Air Bending Master. He was the youngest master in his tribe until his granddaughter Jinora broke his record, mastering Air bending AND energy bending. I also want to point out that Neisha’s accident was an accident she wasn’t expected to survive which might be why Pavi was presented to the White Lotus since it may be assumed that when one twin passes, the power going into the surviving twin.
