@holly.n.fentress: Obviously if there’s a medical reason I understand starting maternity leave early, but otherwise I don’t understand taking off early and using up that time that I want to spend with my baby. Am I missing something?😅 #maternityleave #fmla #shorttermdisability #pregnancytiktok #firsttimemom
My company offers “prepartum” leave one month before the due date 100% paid

In California you either lose or use 4 weeks before the baby is born, so I went on maternity leave at 36 weeks.

We get 18 months. I’m going off two weeks before I’m due. And three people at work acted like I was insane for not working until my water broke 🙄

I can’t wrap my mind around how short the maternity leave in the US is. How in the world do you ladies do it??? I’m Canadian and on sick leave at 33 weeks until delivery. Then I’m taking a year but we have the option of up to 18 months.

In California you get pregnancy disability leave which can only be taken before the baby arrives. It does not affect your maternity leave. I am currently pregnant due 12/19. I start pregnancy leave 11/19, will be on maternity leave for 8 weeks, then baby bonding for 8 weeks, then FMLA for 12 weeks. The only part that is unpaid for me is the FMLA.

Yeah maybe the only thing I like about NJ they give you 4 weeks prior, 6-8 recovery, then 12 weeks bonding

Using paid vacation time to cover the four business days before - working full time right up until I go on “vacation”. It helps that I asked for and got full-remote work granted but even at home I’m achy and uncomfortable from sitting and standing at my desk. Not easy but work does help distract! Saving all my maternity leave time for when baby is here and/or if I’m overdue.

I am shocked by the comments, how is different in other parts of the world.. i live in montenegro, europe. I have been on something that might be called “pregnancy” leave from the day I found out I was pregnant, and that was quite early. So I have been away for 9 months, and now I am going on maternity leave for 12 months. After that we need to use all the vacation days that have collected over that year and 9 months, so that’s another 3 months I think. I feel so sorry for you guys, can’t imagine how is it to leave your 4 week baby and go to work.

I live in NJ and they offer 4 weeks of short term disability prior to birth. It’s use it or lose it, you can’t bank it and use it after the baby is here!

I took off a week before having my first so I could relax and get final things done without the stress of working and needing to do all of that & with this baby I’m taking off 4 days early to get some last minute time with my first born and lazy time before

I'm in NY and I had the option of 6 weeks of FMLA on top of the 12 paid weeks, but it would've been unpaid and I simply couldn't afford it. My shift started at 4 PM the day my baby was born, he was born at 3:12 PM, I texted my manager that he was here and I was starting my leave at like 3:40, he was still on my chest doing my golden hour 😂

in CA we get 4 weeks before our due date plus our normal maternity leave once baby is born and if you don’t use it, you lose it! so my last day is Friday and i’ll be almost 36w!

Yes! I get 6 months 100% paid but I’m so over working already, I will likely be going out at 36 weeks using short term which is also paid

in NJ you get 4 week prior to your due date that is not transferable , then 6-8 weeks of recovery then 12 week bonding. the 4 weeks prior you don’t get back if you go into labor early so I am def taking it
