My dad always told us growing up, "If you think you have it bad, take a good look around you. There is always someone that may have it worse".

I’m much older than you, probably at least 25 years older, but your childhood sounds very much like mine. I was in 6th grade before we lived in a house with a bathroom or running water or a car. My parents raised 7 kids. I can remember many Christmases when the only gift we got was a small bag of fruit and nuts from the church. I remember going back to school after Christmas break and lying when others asked what I got for Christmas because I was ashamed to admit my parents couldn’t afford presents. Like you, I had very loving parents. The memories of their love overshadows all the memories of what we didn’t have.

I was born in Kentucky my dad was a coal miner. Five kids and a bathroom and running water. My grandma lived in Harlan KY she didn't have a bathroom and I was always afraid to go the outhouse but I did. My mom was a great mom we were poor but we didn't know we were

I've been blessed through my life and had a similar story in my younger days. It made me more aware of the world in general and there are some things that just really don't matter.
