this is normal for deep cleanings (scaling and root planing). they do the upper and lower right in one appointment, and upper and lower left in another.

Yeaaahhh it’s not just your insurance… it’s ethically better to only numb half the mouth at a time so appreciate your office for doing a job well done :) also, dental offices do not use novocaine anymore…

Hi, my baby. All of these comments are very, very mean. And i'm going to try to explain this to you in the simplest way possible. I am in dental school so I have a little bit of knowledge, but basically, it looks like you got something called a deep cleaning, which means a scaling and root planing it's not just a regular cleaning, they go under your gums the reason they do this is because you might have deeper pockets. And when you have deeper pockets, you can get something called periodonal disease in the reason they have to numb. You is because it's a very aggressive cleaning. They're using many different kinds of tools. Getting tartar plaque and calculus and that's why they have to numb. And the reason they only do half in one appointment is because it's very scary to have your whole mouth numb this procedure is also a hard one, and you can be very sore. After so they only want to do one side . It's also harder to eat, and i'm sorry about your insurance. But the insurance also does this. Because they're going aside with the dentist, because the dentist is doing what's right. Even if it sucks and it's confusing, i'm sorry that you're going through this right now oral gel mouth wash and Tylenol should also help soreness ❤️❤️❤️much love

As a DA, it’s for SRP (deep cleaning) and if we numbed your whole mouth you wouldn’t be able to swallow 😅 as for insurance, it’s so they make sure you come back because the likelihood of people coming back if we just clean top or bottom is very low unfortunately

Hey just had periodontal cleanings! They only allow one half BECAUSE of that! If you have state funded insurance like Medicaid that’s what it’ll be for any deep clean.

Yeah so if it’s a scaling and root planing, most insurances force you to do half the mouth one day and schedule the other another day. That’s pretty common. They do it left and right bc that’s how numbing works

This is normal for non surgical periodontal therapy (also called scaling and root planing/SRP/“deep cleaning”) and it’s because full mouth of anesthesia can be pretty disorienting. We do not anesthetize for routine prophylaxis 💕
