@taipeiqueen: Studying history means that you realize people have been complaining about the youths for hundereds of years. Video Description: Taipei is a drag queen wearing dramatic 1950s inspired makeup, black curly short hair, and a silver moire dress. She stands in front of the blue backdrop and describes a brief history of the bobby-soxers, comparing the misogynistic media outrage of the 1940s to anti-Gen Z sentiment of today. #fashionhistory

When people complain about pimple patches I get so annoyed. 😒 Covering them with fun stars so you don't pick at them or make them worse with goopy concealer?? Genius

I was a teacher for many years. the way adults demonize teenagers, especially girls, is a fascinating study. Dress codes in schools are absolutely targeted towards girls. I, as a teacher, was always getting in trouble because I refused to police the girls and what they wore. we are talking things like tank tops and shorts/skirts that were slightly above the knee.

It’s always women’s fashion. I remember having different dresses for Sunday. I had my church dress, then when we got back I had to change into my day dress, and before dinner I had to change AGAIN into my Sunday dinner dress. My brother wore jeans all day 🙃

As a Gen Xer, when I started seeing kids wear socks with slides it gave me the ick. But I also know it’s my ick & I keep it to myself. You do you.

Plus, socks can be worn over and over. Hosiery (like nylons) San only be worn a few times and you would need to be careful because any run or snag ruined them so they had to be replaced $$$$. I can’t recall any men’s garment that had to be replaced every few days.

By the way, I sent this to my daughter who always getting targeted in school for her darker, gothic aesthetic, even though there was nothing wrong with it. nothing derogatory, nothing political, just her own style. she also absolutely loves socks.

I love socks I have hundreds of pairs with different cute styles, lengths, decorations and colours they just look so cute. I was very inspired by the socks with heels in the movie Clueless.

Traditional hosiery and the clothing associated with it was physically restricting. Women’s place in the world was evolving and required more physical mobility because they were playing sports, working in physically demanding jobs, working long hours, etc. Essentially, socks became a symbol of the reality that women were not as confined to the home as before and were now increasingly present in spaces that used to be exclusively for men. So they hated socks.
