@hiitsmekat: This is not the update I thought I’d be sharing today. Today was rough. I’m not sure what happened to Princess’s eye but I was so worried that if I let her go back out, something much worse would happen. She’s been hiding behind her litter box all day and I know it’s going to take loads of time till she even thinks about coming out. Once we get her to the vet and get her home again, I’m prepared to give her all the time she needs. I’m really hoping we can get through this and she can learn to trust me again. I feel absolutely horrible for doing this to her, like the worst person on earth 💔 I’ve been crying all day. She was finally starting to trust me. Thank you all for your support and for being here, it means so much to me. Please bear with me as I navigate this new territory with Princess. I will do my best to continue to update you all ❤️❤️❤️ #straycat #straycatsoftiktok #princessthecat #catrescue #catdistributionsystem

You’re making the right decision. She’ll be ok. Keeping her in her own room until she feels more relaxed. She’ll adjust in a couple weeks. Good time for her and your cat to start smelling each other. It’s going to be ok.

Please don't feel guilty for one single second. What you and your husband have done for precious Princess is an incredible act of love. Remember, Princess was an indoor cat her entire life. She once knew the comfort of a warm home, the security of four walls, and the feeling of belonging to someone. Then suddenly, everything familiar to her was gone. She's frightened right now because she doesn't understand what's happening, but that doesn't mean you've betrayed her trust. You've actually given her something she's been missing for so long. A home, safety, and people who genuinely care about her. And I truly believe something else. I believe the universe has a way of stepping in when something is meant to happen. Maybe Princess's eye situation was the universe's way of finally giving you that little push you needed to close the door and bring her inside for good. That's what I believe, anyway. Sometimes things happen for a reason, even when we don't understand them at the time. Princess may be frightened right now, and she may hide for a while, but she was an indoor cat once, and with patience, love, and reassurance, I believe she'll learn to feel safe again. I would also hesitate to use a trap with her because she's already so frightened. Instead, perhaps put a comfortable carrier in her room with a soft blanket and some of her favorite food inside. Leave the door open and let her explore it at her own pace, going in and out until she begins to associate it with comfort and security. That might make getting her safely into the carrier much easier and less frightening. There are also mobile services that come right to your home, which might be another option worth considering. Of course, I wouldn't delay getting her eye taken care of while waiting for her to become comfortable with the carrier. One day, I truly hope you'll see Princess curled up somewhere warm, sleeping peacefully, knowing she never has to struggle outside again. And when that day comes, you'll realize that closing that door wasn't an act of cruelty. It was the beginning of Princess getting her life back. Sometimes the greatest acts of love are the ones they don't understand at first.

I am glad she’s inside. She’ll be fine after she acclimates. Do you have a vet who does house call? Love watching the updates.

I didn't bring my sweet Phoenix in quick enough and someone ran over her and I'm still not ok. You definitely made the right decision. I spent a long time building trust too and then it cost her life. You're doing the right thing and thank you for that.

Hey bestie! I socialize fetal kitties. First off, I think you made the right call. Let go of your guilt. Next: I wouldn’t panic too hard about the eye. It’s possible it’s just a little irritated and it may resolve on its own. She’ll need to be seen sooner than later to get up to date on vaccines, but the eye may not be the emergency I think you think it is. Put the carrier in her room, soak it in feliway spray, and cover everything but the entrance with a blanket or towel. She may organically go into it because it’s a good “hide” that way. You can also use the tops of storage totes to kind of “herd” her in if necessary. DO NOT try to pick her up. I’d also call a vet to see if they’d be willing to give you gabapentin to put in her food. Not every vet will without seeing the cat first, but one might given the circumstances. You’re right that you’ve got your work cut out for you, BUT don’t lose hope: Princess is interested in interacting with you, which means socializing her is possible. Cats are resilient and she won’t hold a grudge forever. You’ve got this ❤️

We caught a VERY feral cat at the office I work at while trying to trap some kittens. I brought her to vet planning a TNR, but it was so cold around the time of her surgery I decided not to release her just yet. We brought her home from surgery and placed her in an extra large dog crate with a warming box, litter box, food dishes with some room to play. My son made it his mission to get her accustomed to people. He won her over very slowly. Happy to report she is now a very calm and loving INSIDE cat and a wonderful addition to our home. Princess was used to people and being in a home, she will adjust!!!

you 100% made the right decision. she will eventually love you. I had a semi-feral cat who I captured at 2 years old that had never been indoors that now wants all of the attention in the world and princess was an indoor cat. You're going to get a lot of suggestions. The biggest one that helped me with my cat was eat in their room with them or read in the room with them and just exist in their space without trying to get her attention and eventually she will want yours

She's scared but shes safe, that's what matters. The process was going to be scary for her either way, and yall have made a lot of progress! I also want to mention that I literally took my cat in to the vet a few days ago for the same thing. He's in an indoor only cat and he plays rough, it could happen to any cat. You're doing everything you can for her and shes so lucky to have you!

Talk to your vet!! Mine gave me gabapentin and a plan to sedate her… she had no problem and wasn’t stressed at all with the drugs 😃

I’ve worked in cat rescue, foster care, and trapping cats for over 20 years, and I promise you, you did the right thing. ❤️Please don’t feel guilty for a second. She just needs a little time to decompress and feel safe. The 3-3-3 rule is a general guideline that explains the stages a rescue cat goes through as she adjusts to a new home. I encourage you to look it up because it can really help you understand what she’s experiencing. For now, just sit quietly with her and let her get used to your presence. You don’t have to do anything but be there and let her learn, in her own time, that she’s safe. She will come around at her own pace. After more than 20 years of doing this, I can tell you that patience and love go a long way. You gave her a chance, and that’s something to feel good about, not guilty about. ❤️. Ps Churu treats can go a long way.
