@drjoedamiani: 🔥 Pain at the base of your neck that NEVER seems to go away? Your FIRST RIB might be the missing piece! 💡 Here's what's happening: ⚡ Your first and second ribs connect to your upper back, and restrictions around these joints can contribute to neck and upper shoulder discomfort. ⚡ Your scalene muscles attach to the upper ribs. When these muscles become tight or overactive, they can contribute to tension around the first rib. ⚡ Traditional neck stretches may not address restricted rib mobility, which could explain why the same painful spot keeps bothering you. 🛠️ Try these 3 techniques: ✅ STEP 1: FIRST RIB MOBILIZATION Position a strap over the first rib on the painful side, anchoring it beneath your opposite hip. Slowly shift toward the painful side and return to center, allowing gentle downward pressure through the strap. ✅ STEP 2: SCALENE ACTIVATION + STRETCH Apply gentle resistance against the side of your head without letting it move. Then maintain strap pressure, shift toward the painful side, and tilt your head away to stretch the scalenes. ✅ STEP 3: REPEAT RIB MOBILIZATION Finish with another round of gentle rib mobilization to reinforce comfortable movement. 🔥 Why this matters: The goal here is to improve how your upper ribs and surrounding muscles move together. Keep pressure gentle and stop if you experience tingling, numbness, dizziness, or radiating pain. #NeckPain #FirstRibMobility #ScaleneStretch #ShoulderPain #PhysicalTherapy
