@thelegacyinvestingshow: Income is only half the picture. The other half is what you never have to pay for. My wife doesn't clock into an office. She runs our home like a business. If we hired out what she handles, it would cost us over $70K a year. Here's how we got there. Childcare is a full-time nanny at Utah's average rate (Care.com, 2026). Cleaning is a weekly house cleaner (Angi). Cooking and errands are the hours moms of little kids log in the BLS time-use survey, priced at cook and house-manager pay. That doesn't count the calm and the structure she brings to our house. We couldn't put a price on that. Your numbers will look different. And for plenty of families, two incomes is the right call. Just count both sides before you decide what your house needs.
With this logic, think about how much money you guys could save if you both don’t work. The childcare is the only one on that list that is a real factor. The rest are luxuries. Whether you work or not, those are tasks that you can perform or choose to pay someone to do. Those of us that are not rich or lazy still cook, clean, schedule appointment and figure out the logistics of day to day life.

The amount of men in the comments that don't see a man is just valuing his wife and appreciating what she does without a 9-5 job is not surprising.

Are you saying if she worked that nobody would be cleaning the house or cooking? This is far from accurate.

Amended expenses. Childcare is 10k max once kids go to school. Cooking sorry not sure how that is saved since eating out is roughly similar to cooking at home. logistics? logistics? What is that?
