@cagovernor: I just issued two executive orders to bolster protections along our coasts — and around Highway 1 — ahead of potentially dangerous El Niño storms. We're proactively putting state agencies to work to guard against possible storm damage and road closures.

I like Newsom’s values, but at some point he needs to be more assertive and actually lead. Highway 1 and coastal erosion have been problems for years. This order basically tells agencies to prioritize what should have been a priority all along. He and the Coastal Commission need to take some accountability. We don’t need another order telling people to do their jobs. We need leadership that ensures these issues are addressed before they become emergencies. I also understand our system often pays more to react than to prevent, and that’s part of the problem. We’ve rewarded reactive measures instead of proactive planning. Prevention should always come first. Until we hold leaders accountable for what they prevent, we’ll keep paying to fix problems that should’ve been addressed years ago.

Sand will not work only for a little while. You need to use big rocks.

It'll be minimal effort of a job, I bet most of the funding disappears into @Gavin Newsom pockets.
