@monicaumunna: Just because he’s supposed to do it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t appreciate that he does!! I think sometimes we get so caught up in what our husbands aren’t doing that we completely overlook everything they ARE doing… He’s dependable. He works hard. He shows up. He takes care of his responsibilities. And because he does it consistently, we start treating it like it’s nothing special… But just because something has become normal doesn’t mean it should go unnoticed 🙏🏼 Your husband shouldn’t have to go above and beyond just to hear that you appreciate him 🫶🏼 And if we want our husbands to keep showing up, we should probably start acknowledging all the ways they already are. A little appreciation can go a long way in a marriage!! 🔥🙌🏼🫡
yea my wife never does this. she would always point out how much more I can do or I dont do enough or comparing me to others. constantly made to feel low and never can reach what she needs. it was exhausting, especially when I do so much for her and even her family. I cooked, cleaned, gave a promotion so I can put and take my son off the bus, and moved her mom and sister in with us and delt with their problems so she didnt have too. I hated that we separated but now after few months, im happier that I do not have to feel like a failure every day. I will still jump over walls for her since she is the mother of my child but I never want to feel like howni felt the passed 5 yrs.

Once you start into a nullification loop, it’s a loosing game. You eventually hit a moment where you realize it doesn’t matter how much you do, how much you change, the “bare minimum” clause is nothing more than “all your effort are multipled by zero”. It’s literally synonymous with Martin Seligman and Steven Maier experiments in the late 1960s and their follow up in 2016 for how to cultivate learned helplessness within mammals.

A specific thank-you lands differently: 'You handled dinner when I was exhausted, and that helped.' Appreciation and an honest conversation about sharing the work can both fit in the same relationship.

OMG, you just described what wasn’t happening in my previous relationship. And yes, the motivation was virtually dead.

Not gonna lie, I don’t care for pats on the back, but when I feel acknowledged by my partner, I feel motivated to do more and endure the hard things I try to endure.

Both partners need to PARTNER. Demanding one partner to be who they aren’t naturally is not being a good partner.

Acknowledgements is necessarily on both sides. So start to notice each other and appreciate each other. We often look at what more can be done. Not that it’s is wrong but if we do it without appreciating what is already done it does not drive him to try harder.
