We call this proplifting 😂 I have a plant business and I think it’s fine to take whatever is on the ground as far as broken stems or leaves. But ripping a whole stem out of the pot is a different story lol

My grandmother took walks around the neighborhood with a pair of scissors. She propagated her entire garden from plants from the neighborhood. And guess what? All the plants survived. She didn’t kill anything. She just propagated life into these plants and made more of them. My dad does the same thing. He has pots and pots of plants from cuttings. He makes more and more plants from the plants that he has. It’s making life. They survived the holocaust where they had to make something out of nothing. They were surviving and that instinct to make life and grow stays with you. They never wasted, always repurposed and yes propagated tons of plants and planted seeds to grow food. If you liked something from their gardens, they will send you home with a plant.
