Mattel named the 40-year-old its third honoree in the Barbie Signature Kenbassadors collection. He follows LeBron James and Lenny Kravitz. The doll goes on sale Tuesday, Oct. 27, for $80 at major retailers and Mattel Creations. White told PEOPLE he was heavily involved in the design. At first, he thought about recreating his long-haired “Flying Tomato” look. It did not go as planned. “Taking something obviously big and then miniaturizing it, it doesn’t always compute,” he said. Mattel sent him “a ton of different hair samples.” He taped them to the walls of his house. They finally landed on a color and shorter length that matches how he has looked since he cut his hair in December 2012. The doll wears black-and-white gear inspired by his snow brand, Whitespace. It comes with riding boots, goggles, a helmet and a snowboard. It also has a jersey from The Snow League, the pro tour he launched, with his name and number on it. For White, the doll means more because of his childhood. The typical Ken, he said, was blond. “I was the only redhead in my class.” Being turned into a doll, he said, is something he is proud of, even if he’s not the classic-looking Ken. “It’s a trip, man,” he said.
