@thepottymouthguru: You can be the most responsible, capable, independent person in the fucking room and STILL be codependent. And that’s exactly why so many people misunderstand what codependency actually looks like. We tend to picture someone who’s clingy, needy, or terrified of being alone. But codependency can also show up in the person who’s constantly fixing, rescuing, managing, and holding everything together. Here’s where it gets interesting. You can genuinely love helping people AND feel deeply uncomfortable when you can’t fix their problems. You can be incredibly generous AND struggle to say no because someone else’s disappointment feels unbearable. You can be the person everyone depends on AND have absolutely no idea how to prioritize your own needs. You can even become controlling because someone else’s choices create anxiety that you’re desperately trying to relieve. And sometimes, underneath all that responsibility, there’s a whole lot of resentment. The question worth exploring is what drives these patterns, how much freedom you have to respond differently, and what they’re costing you. Because sometimes the person who needs to be needed is just as caught up in codependency as the person who needs rescuing. Which of these patterns do you think people overlook the most? ❤️🤟🏻🌿 #Codependency #RelationshipPatterns #SelfAwareness

The Pottymouth Guru :
Here’s something worth asking yourself: When someone you care about is upset, struggling, or making choices you disagree with, can you let them have that experience without feeling compelled to fix, rescue, or manage it? And if you can’t, what are you afraid might happen if you don’t step in?

So true! I never understood it until I went to therapy and it is so much more than neediness… I actually don't even think neediness is codependent for me. It was control in the motive behind my narratives how I wanted to be saying… What I took on what I was trying to cover up religious indoctrination does not help any of this lol

I like Ross Rosenberg’s term for codependency: Self Love Deficit Disorder. That rings more true for me.

Being the over-functioned who was always trying to help make someone else’s experience easier/softer WAS me trying to control their experience to be the way I thought it should be.🤯 I had a violent reaction to Terri Cole’s book “Too Much”.

How do I get out of wanting to be rescued all the time? I love to take care of people but I also feel like I have this need/vibe in relationships a lot.

This video made me realize how far I've actually come. I can remember times where I was all of these and one by one I have made changes to myself and my life that have changed how I feel/think/act. I still struggle with some of the 5 at times but man it feels so good to aee how much I am growing.

I heard you can be a responsibly mature person but lack the maturity in self-trust and autonomy. Sometimes a result of being the golden child or the child with do much responsibility that wasn't allowed to disagree with their parents or felt bad doing so. You can be independent but still need to base all your decisions from the people around you. What you're saying about codependency makes me think of that a lot. Does building self-trust and autonomy help with this?
