A tourjete is actually so hard. ( jump over the couch) And some of these comments saying he got it easy this week does NOT understand the level of athleticism contemporary requires. Contemporary is one of the hardest styles. It’s rooted in ballet. You have to rely on yourself to be equally as good as your partner side by side. You don’t get dragged around in a close hold on the dance floor. You have to be grounded on the floor but also be light on your feet. You have to be fluid but also sharp. You have to make every transition look easy when it indeed is not. It may look easy but that’s one of the hardest parts. He pointed his feet, he had solid lines. Transitions from the ground were clean. Lifts were seamless in its transitions. As a dance teacher, most dancers struggle with contemporary more than the other styles because its hard to find the middle ground between fluid and sharp. Which is what is needed to create the textures and shapes - it’s a unique movement quality of its own. Its more of a you have to figure out on your own…the connection between you and your body. Between your spine and your core. How do you flow through each thing realistically without it making look like a chore. Better yet, without making it look like the moves rule over you rather than you owning the moves. It’s very easy for steps to overpower the dancer in that aspect. We have to keep the movement quality going and our bodies moving from our heads all the way to our toes. Not one thing can be out of alignment or sync or otherwise it can mess everything else up and cause a chain reaction. If you miss something it’s hard to jump back in because transitions get messed up and the fluidity gets chopped in the middle. For a non dancer to execute it the way he did was incredible

I think the difference was in him playing a character this week. He seems to be most comfortable when he’s not being vulnerable. Playing a character let him embody the dance entirely

I think he's a good dancer and has good musicality. He's trying too hard to be perfect in the more classical ballroom dances. I knew he'd be good in contemporary and freestyle.

I do think now that Rylee knows he does better paying a character will help her choreograph for him for the rest of the season, anything can be a story even if not as directly as tonight. He did great!!
