I’d say communicate with him in a respectful way because he is being controlling, and even so if the costume isn’t revealing ever better in your favor. Don’t hide it because it will make it worse.

Tell him he is being controlling and weird. Real men want you to have fun and take pride in how beautiful their girl is. Never limit yourself for someone who doesn’t support you. I wouldn’t say that this is break up worthy just have a talk with him about it and if he doesn’t admit he is wrong then you decide if you can live with sneaking around and shutting down things you like.

Id say your being really vague about the costume, he wouldn’t be calling a normal costume revealing/tight - so don’t twist the situation in your mind, if it’s a slty costume then that’s all it is and you should respect his opinion on that - if it’s not tho and your being honest with yourself about it then whatever
