Having a “don’t trash my place” policy is different from asking me to do dishes, clean bathrooms and wash bedding before check out. If I’m paying a cleaning fee, I ain’t doing all that.

I stay in Airbnb‘s all the time too. I clean up, do the dishes. I do all that because I gotta keep my ratings up. But the thing is you’re asking for free labor after you’re already charging a cleaning fee.

My great-uncle ran a small hotel, so my family DRILLED “don’t be a dick to housekeeping” into me. My BF’s family teases me about my nagging before we check out, and I can’t tell you my delight when I found out that AirBnB reviews guests! I was taught to leave it like I found it. Clean up my trash, food, things like that. I’m not sweeping, mopping, washing towels…. Thats what the fee is for, right?

I bag trash and strip my bed in a hotel … I leave those rooms tidy and ready to disinfect and also tip the maids… why?! Because then their time can be spent disinfecting more thoroughly - AND I don’t end up leaving anything behind… and yes- that bedspread goes into the tub w all my other linens!

Totally agree!! I will do things to help the host. I will take the trash out, I will wash my dishes, and I’ll make sure I tidy up afterwards. However, if I am paying a cleaning fee, I’m not going to mow your lawn after staying with you for 2 nights. (Yes that was a rule outside the app.) Be nice to the guest, and I will help you out.

I treat airbnbs like one of my families house. I’m not leaving dirty dishes and I’m not trashing the place. Most just want you to pile up the dirty laundry in one place anyway. It’s not that serious. I treat it like my own home.

The videos I've seen recently of hosts picking apart literally everything have been a huge turnoff for me, but we generally stay in airbnbs because we like to travel with our dogs. We'll still take trash to the curb and leave sheets and towels by the washer. I want to keep my rating perfect.

I walked into an Airbnb that I manage and I had to tell the cleaner to stay outside because there were so many used condoms all over the property… I’m talking like in the hundreds… And all the bedsheets were scrunched up and thrown in the bathtub, and they were covered in blood, feces, and whatever else. But back then and even today, I have never asked a guest to do anything other than make sure the door is locked and take out the trash if it’s an in a complex to the main dumpster.

Separating the cleaning fee and also giving guests a list results in horrid messy check outs… ik bc I’m a cleaning biz… I demanded my hosts to roll the cleaning fee into the rental price, charge per person vs flat rate and give no exit cleaning list- the result was super clean check outs so I go go in to do laundry and disinfect properly!

I love Airbnb, luckily for me i have had more good experiences than bad ones. I’ve staying at Airbnb for over 10 years and I used to travel more than 15 times a year. Im down to twice a year now lol
