As an oncologist, bloating goes straight to the top of my list when it looks like this. 🚩 Everyone bloats. But not all bloating is the same. Here's what I want you to know. 🚩 1. BLOATING THAT DOESN'T RESOLVE Occasional bloating after a meal is normal. Bloating that lasts for weeks without a clear dietary explanation is worth paying attention to. It's often written off as IBS, food sensitivity, or stress for months before anyone looks closer. 🚩 2. BLOATING WITH EARLY SATIETY If you're feeling full after just a few bites, along with persistent bloating, that combination is worth mentioning to a doctor. Together, these can point to an enlarged spleen or pressure from a nearby organ. One symptom is worth watching. Both together is worth a conversation. 🚩 3. BLOATING WITH UNEXPLAINED WEIGHT LOSS Bloating while losing weight without trying is a combination worth getting checked. This pairing can have a number of causes, and it's not something I'd chalk up to a metabolism change without a closer look. 🚩 4. BLOATING WITH A VISIBLY DISTENDED ABDOMEN There's a difference between feeling bloated and your abdomen visibly looking swollen. A visibly distended abdomen can sometimes mean fluid building up in the abdominal cavity, which is worth having evaluated. 🚩 5. BLOATING WITH PELVIC OR ABDOMINAL PAIN Persistent bloating along with pelvic pressure, lower abdominal pain, or pain during intercourse is a combination worth taking seriously. These symptoms are easy to miss because they can look like everyday digestive issues. Most bloating is benign. But bloating that is new, persistent, progressive, or paired with any of these other symptoms deserves a conversation with your doctor. Ask questions. Your body is telling you something. 🩺 If you made it this far, you like the content. Follow for more. 🎗️ Not medical advice. My opinions are my own. #MedTok #womenshealth #DoctorsOfTikTok #bloating #symptoms
