I always loved the Bible story about Noah and the ark. He surely must have taken a fine ration of ribbing from his neighbors while the big boat was under construction. It had never rained there!!! Loading the animals, two by two. Gotta wonder if there were any skirmishes in the process. Then there were the long days and nights while the ark floated on the floodwaters. Enough to make you nuts! Finally, Noah sent a dove out to ferret out the landscape. She brought a tender twig, which told Noah it was still not clear to disembark. And finally, God’s promise, signified by the beautiful rainbow. Have to remember that all these things were completely strange to Noah and company.

I questioned my sanity every time I get in my car to drive from Texas to Georgia and back. It’s a hella long, mostly boring ride. The only interesting things were driving through the Achafalaya Swamp Basin, because of the cool place names. Breaux Bridge, Butte La Rose and Plaquemine always sounded like fairy kingdoms to me. Other cool thing were crossing the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge and passing through Houston, my starting point.0
