@yvettewhitesitt: To add * I’m not saying teachers don’t deserve to have a life outside of work, they DO. They are doing the hardest and most important job, teaching our babies. I poorly worded what I was trying so say, what I meant to say is “wondering why schools schedule these special moments LAST MINUTE during the workday.” * Once my daughter started school I realized how difficult this schedule is for a working mom. Like how are you supposed to do drop off, make it to work and then pick up before 5pm with the typical 9-5 schedule? Shout out to the working moms!! #sahm #relatablemom #MomsofTikTok #latinacreator #momsover30
If not during the work day, then when do you suggest they do things? Because school staff is also at work…are they supposed to push everything back and be at school 12-14 hours to accommodate working parents? I don’t understand that mindset.

I told my husband how I’ve heard kids talking to their parent saying “Peyton’s mom comes to everything” upset when their parent couldn’t go. It made me feel so bad for them, I try to spend some time with each of them if they’re hanging around like they want interaction.

Because the teachers there are also working moms and shouldn’t have to spend unpaid time away from their children.

I also think about this when I get called to pick them up because they got sick. Like how can people just leave work to pick their kid up early?

All of my kids’ school performances happen during the school day. It has something to do with the teachers union contracts. I remember all of my performances being in the evenings growing up.

As a single working parent my PTO and sick days are for my kid at this point. I do wfh which makes some things easier. But overall it’s really freaking hard to show up. Especially when field trips are given like one week notice.

Probably because teachers have their own families they would like to see outside of school hours.

Because school boards don't want to pay teachers overtime to do things outside of normal school hours; because teachers have lives and families and are tireeeed; because there are not enough willing volunteer parents to help with events outside of school hours. Behavior of children is on the decline because of parenting. Those are the same parents who aren't helping volunteer at school. Times are so different. I taught for 10 years. Changed careers before becoming a SAHM. I won't teach again if I can help it.

I’m not sure what wonky school districts these people have but our events are put out in February for the following entire school year! Every function, concert, pumpkin painting, etc. Never have I had an event appear overnight

It’s all so hard 😭 and now many schools do no younger siblings so I’m dreading figuring out what I’m going to do with baby sis for future events as a sahm with no childcare or family help

I’m thankful my son’s school is close to my work so I can go to these events. But I always feel bad for the child waiting for their mom to walk through the door and they couldn’t come

They scheduled them during the day for the same reason they don’t schedule them at night. Teachers don’t work at night.

as a preachool teacher, we cant win. my center sends a survey as to which days/hours parents prefer us to do things. we always get 50/50 answers so we just have to plan what we think is best because we also have lives

As a working mom, my daughter’s teacher sent out a message Sunday night abt a last minute birthday celebration lunch for inviting all the parents for her (the teachers) birthday. I left work to go. I was the only parent to show up.. I felt so bad

It’s been years since I’ve gotten a promotion at work. But the flexibility it provides allows me to be a very present and active parent. And for now, that’s my priority.

It's probably because a lot of those teachers are working moms too. And once your kiddo is in elementary school, technically school is not childcare...
