![Scared of the dark? Happy Halloween from Transylvania, where the fog has impeccable timing and a shortcut through the woods suddenly feels like a spectacularly stupid way to save seven minutes. Come for the autumn colours. Stay because you’re no longer entirely comfortable walking back to the car. Sighișoara’s medieval citadel, Saxon villages, fortified churches, forests climbing into the Carpathians. Spend the day wandering, get properly cold, then find somewhere serving something hot. A good dinner and a glass of țuică can do remarkable things for your courage. The walk back will test the results. Funny how we spend all year wanting to feel alive, then object when a twig snaps behind us. Wet earth, woodsmoke, footsteps you suddenly start counting. Give your imagination ten minutes alone with this place. And if your friend suggests splitting up, reconsider the friendship. Who’s coming with you?
