How to build an AI employee in Claude Code that works while you sleep (laptop closed) How to build an AI employee in Claude Code that does its job every morning before you wake up, with your laptop closed. The example: Rosa runs a landscaping company with eight people and loses the first hour of every day working out what needs her. By 6 AM she now gets one page: what came in, the replies already drafted, who owes her, and what needs her today. An AI employee has five things a chat window doesn't: a job description, tools, rules, a memory and a start time. The seven steps: The desk. An empty folder in Claude Code. Ask it to interview you about the job, then write it into CLAUDE.md, the file Claude reads every time it starts. The tools. Connect Gmail, Google Calendar and the invoice spreadsheet through connectors (built on MCP). Read and draft only. The skill. Write the morning job down once: sort yesterday's emails, draft quote replies in her voice, flag invoices unpaid after 14 days, check jobs against the forecast. Add two examples of a great briefing. The rules. The step people skip. Draft, never send. Only ever email Rosa. Never pay, delete or change a price. Unsure? Put it under

The rules. The step people skip. Draft, never send. Only ever email Rosa. Never pay, delete or change a price. Unsure? Put it under "Needs Rosa". The memory. One Google Doc as a log. It writes what it did and what it's waiting on, and reads it first next morning. Run it by hand three times. Read every draft. When something's off, fix the instructions, not the output. The start time. Put the folder in a private GitHub repo and make it a scheduled task in Claude Code: weekdays, 5:30 AM, on Anthropic's cloud. Each run starts from a fresh copy of the repo, which is why the log lives in Google Docs. Once one works, the second is a copy. Same desk, new job, its own rules and its own log. That's how one AI employee becomes a team, and your job becomes manager. Inside my community there are eight courses that take you from zero: context, skills, connectors, memory, all the way to a team of AI employees.
