No, the paint had Iron oxide or something to protect the wood.

It was done before there ever were brick buildings. In Smålland there is the oldest stone house of sweden and there are wooden houses that are older still. The red comes from Fålun, hence “Fålun Röd” meaning red. This was an old fashioned way to protect the wood, again rain and snow. You have to reapply it every couple years. Nowadays if you have the wooden houses it means ur richer than with the bricks haha. In no way was it to impersonate brick houses. It was a survival mechanism!

It was to prevent the wood from weathering and decaying. The red iron oxide paint is very good at protecting the house from crumbling after a couple decades

It was originally to imitate brick walls, but then they discovered that Falun red paint actully preserves and protect the wood from insects and weather. It is one of the reasons why we got so many old wood cabins left. It is so much more than just red paint.

No. They painted it red because it absorbed more light making it warmer in the winter and also keep the wood for longer.

no, this is not correct. the copper in the paint protect the wood, so was a saving instead of replace bad wood in house. and you can see it in the climate, red in south and middle Sweden, the north was still gray, the humidity was not the same, and didnt need the protection.

and the beautiful thing with traditional faluröd (falun red) is that it seeps into the wood, so it doesn't chip, it fades, so you can repaint when it's time without having to do a bunch of prepping beforehand
